On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is a privilege to welcome you to the XXIII IMEKO World Congress. It will be held from August 30 to September 3, 2021 in Yokohama, Japan, for the first time in 20 years, hosted by Science Council of Japan(SCJ) and the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers (SICE), with active involvement from many Japanese professional bodies, universities and industry.
Yokohama, which has developed into Japan’s 2nd largest city with a population of 3.70 million, is an international city representing Japan. It has played a large role in Japan’s modernization and internationalization as it is a gateway where “East meets West” for more than 150 years. With this historical background, it is now home to many citizens of foreign nationalities from around the world. Also, under ideal conditions such as excellent transportation access, a wealth of human resources, and well-established support by the municipal government, there are a lot of Yokohama-based high-tech companies. Furthermore, Yokohama’s cityscape is a fusion of lush nature and modern urbanism, with opportunities to experience traditional culture, a various cuisines, and diverse entertainment.
Measurement is a fundamental academic discipline that forms information as formal knowledge, cultivates intellectual curiosity of human beings, promotes economic society through the creation of social value, and creates the future of human life. Also, measurement is a science and technology that forms an intelligent society supported by sensor networks, IoT, cyber physical systems and so on.
Metrology is essential for trade and industry. In modern context, harmonized metrology standard and measurement science are the key factors for innovation, sustainable development, and quality of life. Specifically, metrology and measurement contribute in all categories of Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).
The Invited and Keynote Speakers are planned to provide recent insight in their field. Many sessions held during the week will enable you to find what is new in this most topical and important fields. Exhibition and technical visit aim to showcase some of the leading developments in the industry from Japan, Asia and, indeed, across the world.
We do hope that all the people working in metrology and measurement science coming either from academia or industry, from scientists to engineers, from mathematicians to chemists and physicists, from instrumentation designers to measuring techniques developers, will exchange and share information here in Yokohama, at the XXIII IMEKO World Congress.
